This week was Purim here in Israel, a mix of Carnival and Halloween, but without trampy or treat. In addition to the children who dress up, the adults also join it and go to work as pirates and superheroes. Nice to see people taking buses like that.
But it’s not just on Purim that people don’t care what others think, it’s easy to see people in pajamas walking the dog on the street or even in the supermarket. I took a break here about always be well dressed. The country I was born, if you’re not well dressed, people don’t serve you well in stores or restaurants. Here in Israel this does not happen. It doesn’t matter how you’re dressed, they don’t serve you well anyway! Serving is not strong here (wasn’t 3 years serving in the army enough?).
No one cares what others may think and everyone says what they think about you and to your face, no filter. What do I think about it? Excellent! Masks only on Purim. Unlike Carnival here, no one is naked on the street, not least because a lot of clothes are donated, in addition to furniture and electrical appliances. Easy to see in front of the buildings beds and piles of clothes for anyone who wants them. Israelis can be stressed sometimes but they have two hearts.
Speaking of superheroes, I heard that Marvel is going to make a movie with a Heroine from Israel (not Golda Meir). It will be played by an Israeli actress (not the one playing Wonder Woman). The character is called Sabra. I think I know her super power: having children! Seriously, here in Israel when you say you want kids, you really mean it. They have a lot of children! You ask someone if he or she have children and the answer is: – I have 6. – Then you stop and reflect if you heard right. And then you ask: – Do you have 6 children?! – Yes, if I could I would have more. – After all, if you’re going to take the kids to play on Purim, you have to be with the entire Avengers group, right? Useful tip: Be fruitful and multiply!
